The development of sister-city relationships between Australian towns and overseas communities have been derided as junkets for local government representatives and little more than the exchange of gifts and pleasantries. But regional centres in Western Australia are already reaping the benefits of establishing close ties with the economic powerhouse of China, and others are planning to follow in their footsteps.
