The devotees of the Lord are not so much interested in the minute workings of the material world with all it’s physical, gravitational, molecular, biological and astronomical details, they are more interested in the service of the Lord and His devotees. Yet, in all the Puranas and specifically in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, the periodic cycles of creation, maintenance, evolution of species and desolution of the worlds along with all it’s inhabitants etc is explained at great length. Maharaj Parikshit’s questions pertaining to the cosmic world are different in nature from the mundaner who also seeks to find out how this world comes about and how it operates. A devotee is interested to learn how everything has it’s connection with the Supreme Lord. The material universes are carefully constructed, minutely controlled, with strict symmetry and in a consistent methodological manner by the supreme will of the Lord. While to the challenging atheist the perception of reality is limited to his/her own sensual strengths, reality is perceived in totality by a devotee who can clearly see it’s connection with the divine Lord. All genuine seekers of reality therefore seek answers not only to the “how” questions and but also to the “why” questions. The Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam fully equips it’s humble receiver to fully comprehend the multi-dimensional material world to be able to go beyond it, to reinstate in our original position at home, back to Godhead.
