The difference between SNLD and SNDP are Sai Ai Pao and Kun Tun Oo Jai Lert Tai 07.11.2014 What are the difference between SNLD and SNDP? A very good and sensitive question that most people dare not to ask and from time to times, the answers were never been cleared. However, the differences are Sai Ai Pao is the leader of SNDP and Kun Tun Oo is the leader of SNLD. Proud enough to claim that both of them never denied the facts on the basic principle of the 1947th Panglong agreement that guaranteed the fundamental rights for the Shan State people. It is because anyone or any parties that goes against the will of the Shan State people would face with a political campaign. It is a lose-lose political campaign. Historically, SNDP was born from the SNLD after its leaders (Kun Tun Oo and Sai Nood were were jailed together with Sao Sor Ten) under the charge of a threat to the defunct Barmar Union. At that time, SNLD was and still has been a member to a Shan State Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) that were comprised of Shan Armed groups SSNA, SSA-SSPP and SNLD. After forming the SSJAC, the Burmese authorities started to arrest them. Obviously, the Burmese regime has never left any political groups that impose a threat to their power…everyone would be jailed if they were regarded as a threat to their power. It was how the Burmese regime shot down our Shan leaders, Sao Shwer Theik and his family members at his residence in Yangon and some other prominent leaders who were killed and disappeared their detention under the political charge. Kun Tun Oo, Sai Nood and other Shan leaders were detained and jailed under the same baseless accusations and the same political condition. Since then, the function of the party did not work under the threats of Burmese regimes and under the nose of Burmese spies. The clock ticks on, time has changed, Burma faced with international sanction, pressure and economic crisis. The Burmese regime needs a fresh political change. As a result, Burmese regime created a 2010 faked election. It was a must-do duty for the Burmese regime. Ironically, to maintain in power, no one is smarter than the Burmese regime in this political cheating games. When the SNLD leaders were in jail and the party is not registered, some of its members started to reform under the belief of seizing some opportunity to Shan rights in the so-called parliament via the 2010 election under the brand new of White Tiger. Why choosing the White Tiger is also a good question to ask, it is because the Shan believes that white tiger represent the Shan kingdom (Sao Sur Kan Fa). Here, we should not forget that main player to set up white tiger party was Sao Gai Fa (who turned his back on SSA\SSPP and become a militia under the Burmese Army structure). After two years of election, on 13 January 2012, Kun Tun Oo, Sai Nood and other more than hundreds of political prisoners were released by the Burmese regime. Yes, the Burmese government under the new leadership Thein Sein takes all credits for the releasing of political prisoner. However, we should not forget that it is the same Burmese regime that put them in jail and it is the Burmese regime who release them and take the credits by releasing them. As the result, they were praised as Mr. Good man, Mr. Reformist or Mr. Change or even Thein Sein was nominated for noble peace prize. After Kun Tun Oo was released from jail, it was a happy new for all Shans including Sai Ai Pao if I am not wrong this point. But on the technical question of why they were not able to come together, the key question was who was the main funder of SNLD? Wow…interesting question. As mentioned above, we should not forget Sao Gai Fa who was the main supporter SNDP when it was founded. However, after SNDP was elected, due to some personal conflicts, Sao Gai Fa’s role and influence started to decrease. Again, after Kun Tun Oo was released, he went to Lashio and overnighted at Sao Gai Fa’s residence. Trust me, what kind of message would Sao Gai Fa would give to Kun Tun Oo, I am not sure. The point was both sides started to slash each other via the media on the political propaganda since the visit. Yes, it is sad and embarrassing news for the Shans. Repeatedly, most of SNLD members started to bite back whenever the questions were raised the role of Sao Gai Fa’s role as a militia leader under the Burmese army structure. Sao Gai Fa who was regarded as a closer friend to Kun Tun Oo. It was known that Sao Gai Fa visited Kun Tun Oo from time to times, when he was in jailed via some contacts. I believe both Sai Ai Pao and Kun Tun Oo have a big heart for the Shan State people and ready to embrace each other if they could forsake the individual egoism. Because some of egoism would not do good but only create bad result. Finally, they are both born from the Shans…they are just different in names.
