The disastrous experience of the Los Angeles Unified School - TopicsExpress

The disastrous experience of the Los Angeles Unified School District is an important cautionary tale for educators who believe every student should have their own iPad. “Los Angeles Unified officials who evaluated bids for its massive technology project received iPads from Pearson, met with a Pearson software executive and attended a weekend sales pitch for that software — all ahead of the public bid process.” Not surprisingly, the officials chose Apple and Pearson. When a major scandal ensued, the contract was cancelled. But the entire fiasco begs the question: Is the drive to get every student their own iPad really about improving educational outcomes or is it that there’s a tremendous amount of money to be made by selling schools on tablets?
