The draft Programme of Work (i.e. the schedule) of the 27th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (8 to 26 September 2014) is now online at ohchr.org/EN/HRBodies/HRC/RegularSessions/Session27/Pages/27RegularSession.aspx. An annual discussion on the integration of a gender perspective (15th Sept) and a half-day discussion on the rights of indigenous peoples (17th Sept) will be held during the session, as well as 7 panel discussions, on: History teaching & memorialisation processes (9th Sept); Protection of the human rights of persons deprived of their liberty (10th Sept); The right to privacy in the digital age (12th Sept); The protection of the family & its members (15th Sept); The role of prevention in the promotion and protection of human rights (18th Sept); The use of remotely piloted aircraft of armed drones in counter-terrorism and military operations (22nd Sept); Accelerating global efforts to end violence against children (23rd Sept); and South Sudan (24th Sept). During the session, 14 Special Procedures mandate holders will present their annual reports to the Council and participate in Interactive Dialogues (IDs) and the Council will consider the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) outcomes of 14 countries (Norway, Albania, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Portugal, Bhutan, Dominica, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Brunei Darussalam, Costa Rica, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Qatar, Nicaragua). An Interactive Dialogue with the Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic is scheduled for the 16th September and the Inter-Governmental Working Groups (IGWG) on the right to development and the right to peace will present to their reports to the Council on the 12th and 17th September (respectively). The session will also see the appointment of 7 new Special Procedures mandate holders (ohchr.org/EN/HRBodies/SP/Pages/HRC27.aspx).
