The effective deligitimizing of the Old Regime (Wall Street’s puppets in the White House, the Congress, and the corporate lobbyists and agents everywhere) goes beyond the reformism of “Occupy!” The strategy of pressuring REAL regime change still lacks the backing of the ruling political parties and the organizations that buttress that regime, and still lacks the ability to create a real power structure, and thereby lacks the ability for a real revolutionary overthrow of that regime. The fact is that the vast bulk of the old-regime institutions – security forces, government agencies, the ruling parties, and the media – are still intact, and the 99% movement has no direct leverage over them. But real consensus requires real power behind it. The advantage to the current situation is that there is no immediate social breakdown, so counterrevolutionary violence has, to some extent, been kept in check, and the 99% movement wins time to organize wider social forces and exert pressure on the interim regime. Yet the task of the dismantling of Wall Street’s dictatorship and institutions is thwarted while the power is still in the hands of Wall Street’s forces (and their agents are everywhere). So we need to become less amorphous and more directed, and by moving into the system itself, we can morph that system into a larger agent that works for the 99%. YOU are the 99%. I am the 99%.
