The `ekologic studio has been buzzing all year to bring you beautiful clothing and accessories handmade by recycling post consumer cashmere knit sweaters. We are a small recycling design producer in Troy, NY. Hand making clothing and hats one at a time. We cherish, cut, paste, rejuvenate and reinvigorate old cashmere sweaters guided by founder/artist Kathleen Tesnakis. Each item created is developed over a long period of cherishing and understanding the material to be recycled. A creative spark transforms piles of deconstructed cashmere knit into functional bits of art, handmade by identifying quality, characteristic and viable use. We respond to the materials by posing questions.What positive characteristics does this item have? Can we design something that could elevate this material? Can this item be transformed into something new that is beneficial to the human or earth/universe in some way? Actively responding and feeling inspires the designs that you see before you. Each item artfully hand cut, sewn and prepared individually. Look for the ever changing use of color and textures as a collection of sizes is created. Every item is made with an individual thought. This describes what I call the e ko logic process of garment recycling. It has been my passion for the past 18 years. Today, I will be putting the final touches together for our shop at the Grand Central Holiday Fair. I took a small army to get everything prepared and out the door.
