The end of 2014 is upon us. Our first year of trapping has been a huge success! This week we reached 455 cats trapped, neutered, and returned to their territories. This number is huge. If only half of those cats were female and each cat has 2-3 litters per year, we literally prevented thousands of kitten births the first year of our program alone. Thanks to you, we were able to provide shelters, straw, and food to several colony caretakers in addition to taking in, socializing and adopting out several kittens who would have otherwise had to live on the streets. KCC has even been able to help fix several owned cats. As we prepare for the 2015 trapping season, we will also be making some changes to the program and our page in order to run more efficiently. We would like to keep all posts to the page TNR or cat question related. Rehoming cats on this page will no longer be allowed. In the past, we have always allowed folks to rehome fixed cats or kittens on our page due to the fact that Kokomo did not have many options when it came to homeless cats or kittens. Luckily, Pat and Trena have decided to fill a void in Kokomo and started their own feline rescue in November. Although this is not a joint venture, we will be working closely with them in order to help even more cats and kittens. We are very excited that there are more resources available to help the homeless cats. I am hopeful that our 501(c)3 paperwork will be accepted soon so that we can start applying for grant funding to fix both community and owned cats. We believe that fixing pet cats is important as well because unfixed lost and abandoned cats will be on the streets producing more cats. I would also like to see our program get a transport vehicle. We trap large colonies and could use the ability to move them all in one trip. In 2015, we would like to have more volunteers to help trap and transport. We will teach you anything you would want to know about TNR and how you can help. Dates for volunteer meetings will be posted once we all get through the holidays. Repairing the cat overpopulation issue will not happen overnight. It will take a few years of active trapping to start seeing a decline in shelter intakes and street populations. But, IT WILL HAPPEN! I am extremely thankful for all our volunteers, donors, and supporters. Without all of you, 2014 would not have been so successful! If you would like to donate to the program, please send monetary donations, payable to Kokomo Community Cats to P.O. Box 85 Kokomo IN 46903, Cat food donations and supplies can be dropped off at Pet Supplies Plus on 931 or arrangements can be made to have it picked up.
