The entire script of a conversation I had a few minutes ago with a well-meaning but somewhat obnoxious (and maybe drunk) fellow passenger. Him: Youve been working on that computer of yours for hours now. What are you doing, writing a book? Me: (still typing a sentence, forgetting to break my brain out of academic mode) Nope. Editing questions for a geographic quiz bowl, then finishing a conference presentation Im giving about how quantum space-time can be used to interpret memorials. Him: Ugh, you dont have to make shit up, you could have just told me it was none of my business and I wouldve left you alone. (leaves in disgust) If he only knew how much of an academics life is mak[ing] shit up....
