The essence of God is love. The essence of each one of us is love. Today I puzzle over God having a birthday. I appreciate that this is pushing the envelope between the detailed and the abstracted, and hope that you can forebear my contemplation without bristling. To wonder about God having a birthday is to shoot our arrows of desire to grasp that which is ungraspable into the very heart of the mystery making existence eternally and everlasting rich ... the mystery of unending love, a love which permeates the essence of this impossibly tangled and seemingly separate thing called self. Infinite God, then, must have infinite birthdays, every time a bubble of self bursts into a consciousness that it is one with the Great Mystery, that we are the Great Mystery, and that we cannot contain our infinite love, and more importantly, that we have no desire to. Happy Birthday, God, and my love to all of you.
