The etchings for the anatomically groundbreaking work of De humani corporis fabrica, published in 1543 by Andreas Vesalius (1514 – 1564) The work in itself is a masterpiece & was historically crucial to the development of Surgery as its known today, correcting the previously adhered to body of work by Aelius Galenus (129 –200?AD), since the dissection of corpses was viewed as unethical. There were mistakes in this volume, including how blood circulation worked which would be discovered later by William Harvey (1578 – 1657). The artists who depicted the dissected cadavers in allegorical life-like postures has been credited to the studio of the painter Titian in this volume, although Jan van Calcar (1499–1546) has illustrated for Vesaliuss earlier works in a much less refined style.
