The events surrounding the failure to indict in both Ferguson and Staten Island have played the role of cruel bookends to the deep personal loss of my friend and role model, Jay Cooper. My eyes are in a perpetual state of welling. While they have occasionally fallen whenever I sit and give things too much thought, I have found that that my tears, by and large, stand perched on the precipice of precipitation. As I traverse my way haphazardly through the five stages of grief, I am ever-reminded of my finite existence and the penultimate urgency of now. With that being said, I fully intend to write, speak and speak out for my life. And for the lives of those who either cannot, or cannot anymore. I encourage you to do the same.
