The existence of matter and antimatter while highly - TopicsExpress

The existence of matter and antimatter while highly mathematicalized in quantum field theory none-the-less posses some philosophical questions, some of which are very profound. Exactly why nature has evolved matter and antimatter strikes to the core of the very first moments of time in our universe. The matter-antimatter duality is perhaps one of fundamental ontological scientific significance and has an origin that is existentially primeval. Antimatter has the highest known mass-specific potential energy content. Aside from any possible military applications, antimatter is the stuff than can enable rockets to go crazily close to the speed of light; and for the crew members, the ability to effectively travel in principle many, many light years per second in the ship frame and many billions of years into the future in one second ship time, with plausibly practical mass ratios. Producing antimatter in the large quantities needed will be difficult but not impossible. We can harness solar and stellar light-sources to power antimatter generating accelerators. However, even before we launch large mass ratio matter-antimatter rockets, we may find that antimatter is best first used to catalyze the nuclear fusion of intake fusion fuel from natural background interstellar sources. I am betting that gamma factors in the 1,600 range are possible with antimatter catalyzed nuclear fusion interstellar ramjets made of known industrial refractories and alloys. These bad-boys will enable any healthy alive and awake human persons to travel anywhere in the Milky Way Galaxy on missions starting from home-base Earth. Think of it! There are an estimated 300 billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy alone, most of which may have planets orbiting them. The Milky Way is just one of perhaps 200 billion galaxies in the observable universe which is theoretically just a tiny portion of our universe. However, before we go crazily gamma to other galaxies, we have the wonders of the Milky Way to explore, and perhaps this very century, we will send out manned and womened starships to the nearest dozen or so stars. Oh let the fun begin! It is time to start the eternal party of the cosmos!
