The extremely enjoyable Mad Dogs is on a deeper level, a demonstration of what every international recruiter sooner or later learns - that taken out of their comfort zone, the British become utterly helpless. These are the people who can alight in the most exotic corner of the world and head for the nearest restaurant with chips on the menu. Who could turn their backs on the Grand Canyon to catch up on the latest Premiership scores. Who simply cannot seem to function as individuals, seeking protection instead in the herd, usually found of an evening in a British pub. In Spain. Or Thailand. I blame the Welfare State - and we in Ireland are little better. Hands up those who have been to a Spanish resort and never once set foot in an Irish pub? Say what you will about American or French or German travellers but they dont land here looking for cheeseburgers, coq au vin or wienerschnitzel.
