The fact that most people in our generation, when asked to think - TopicsExpress

The fact that most people in our generation, when asked to think about the future, will think about their future rather than the future of humanity is troubling. To be frank to everyone that reads this: We as individuals do not matter. At least, not nearly enough to warrant this solipsistic, ego-centric viewpoint. Unless you stand up and make a real, observable difference in this world, you will not be remembered, mourned, acknowledged or revered in even a century unlike what most people seem to think. This is made a problem, because when I look around, and speak with members of my generation, very rarely do I ever hear anyone thinking about mankind. They are usually so taken up by their own life, and their own ego, that they have no care for what the world or their species will be like after they pass. Ideally, this is what we as a society should hope to achieve someday... when it doesnt threaten our existence as a species. If we continue to ask as if every single person should live like a rockstar, drive a super nice car, make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, and contribute NOTHING towards our continuation as a species, we will die out. We will strip this planet dry, there will be wars fought for precious few resources, and all of your high standard of living and basic humanities will be gone forever. Please. For our species. For your neighbors and friends. For every person that will be descended from you. Think about how you live, what you can contribute, and what you want our future to be. Not just about basic rights and necessities. Not just ten years from now. But hundreds if not thousands of years from now. Is what you are doing with your life going to benefit those who succeed you? Treat your fellow human as a person, and enjoy your life. But dont ruin it for the future. You are not the pinnacle of humanity, and what you do in life should in some way contribute to our rise as a species.
