The fact that the president of the NAACP flew in to St. Louis only - TopicsExpress

The fact that the president of the NAACP flew in to St. Louis only to repeat the misinformation perpetuated by the media and demand answers during an ongoing investigation was simply ignorant. But the fact that he declined to specifically condemn the actions of blatant thievery and violence outrages me. The man who was killed was just that, a man, not a boy. I am not excusing police action, nor am I insinuating automatic guilt in the deceased. But I am highly confused why throughout this conference they referred to Michael as if he was an innocent child. Having no real information at this point about his death or its surrounding circumstances and largely relying on speculation, the media outrage and criminal response ridiculous. This press conference is jumping on the media train and is frankly irresponsible. Merely fueling the fire of hate could lead us right back to where we were in the Watts riots of the 60s, it does not help Civil Rights, and will not ease the pain of the family or the community. This vandalism was not about social injustice, it was about people looking for an excuse to behave like animals. Dr. King himself advanced the cause of African Americans with his commitment to non-violence and to passive resistance. It seems to me that THIS man, the NAACP leader and supposed representative of the African American cause, is more interested in creating a martyr than he is in truth, or in fostering peace. If we truly want equality for all, regardless of the color of our skin, we cannot allow every event such as this to become national news, assume unnecessary police action in stories where we still dont know anything, and above all we cannot let it excuse violence and senseless destruction. My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Saint Louis, as well as Michael Browns family. Stay safe everyone
