The federal government, namely the Federal Aviation Administration - TopicsExpress

The federal government, namely the Federal Aviation Administration came up with some new duty rules for airline pilots. FAR 117. These new rules came about after the accident in Buffalo a few years back. These new rules were meant to reduce fatigue among airline crews. These rules are a total joke as far as that goes. They eliminated a limitation on flying more than 30 hours in 7 days. They also increased the amount of flight time in one day from 8 hours to 9 hours. And along with some other changes I have to say, as an airline pilot I have never been so tired in my life. My schedule over 13 days, starting on June 27th involves 11 days of flying in 13 days. 3 on. 1 off. 4 on. 1 off. 4 on. This includes 58:05 of scheduled block time. And does not include 10:05 of flying that includes my commute to and from Phoenix. I have never had schedules this shitty since I was a freight dog 25 years ago. These new schedules from the company, under the FAAs new rules are going to cause another accident. And I will garontee you I will be using the fatigue clause in my contract to avoid flying this garbage as frequently as I have too. This is total BS! You CANNOT recover and return to work fully rested after 1 day off in between trips! And your fatigue level is cumulative, and increases when you start a trip. So you never really get caught up, and fully rested.
