The festival of swing is known as Teej which falls in the month of August or early September. It is celebrated all across India but mostly in the State of Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and in the country Nepal. It is a three day festival dedicated to the Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva’s reunion. It is the festival of married women and engaged girls in which they pray for prosper, happy and healthy life of their husbands to Goddess Parvati. The festival features religious processions, fasting, colorful costumes, singing and dancing. It is the occasion of the arrival of monsoon and women dress themselves in new clothes and enjoy rope swings. The married women go to their parents’ home and celebrate the festival there. Gifts, clothes and sweets are given by their parents as well as in-laws where as Sindhara is received by engaged girls from their “would be in-laws”.
