The fight for many was, putting it mildly, to not let Narendra Modi become the PM. Well fought. But even those who stood opposed could not bring themselves to say, Then, Rahul! with a straight face. And definitely not Madam hissing her diktats in Tanysylvanian-accented Hindi from the shadows of 10J. Well, now its done. India wanted Modi as PM, India has gotten Modi as PM. By an overwhelming, awe-inspiring margin. Fact. So I, for one, intend to stop fighting (at least unless its necessary to fight again, while hoping like hell it wont be). I was not a fan of Modi the PM-aspirant. But now, he IS our PM. The fate of our nation does lie in his hands. And thats a whole new deal. Insisting that he is a right-wing hardliner can only serve to bring out the latent hardliner in him. Maybe Mahatma Gandhi had it right - appeal to the best in your fellow human being and they feel compelled to answer to that call. Heres hoping that the he lives up to the best that the aye-sayers believe of him. If he wants greatness and a place in history, I pray he achieves it by making India all that she can be - a shining example of pluralistic culture, religious harmony and inclusive growth. At the very least a peaceful, positive and non-corrupt India. Jai Hind.
