In order to save his studio, producer/director Cecil D.W. von Stroheim holds a contest to find the next leading lady to appear in a new romantic film opposite his biggest star, Peter P. Powell. In an innovative twist that he hope will prove profitable, von Stroheim decides to hold the competition in front of a live studio audience (thats you, we hope) and let them vote on the winner, while filming the entire affair for later theatrical distribution.
