The fire is about 90km south of GP & out of control. Should - TopicsExpress

The fire is about 90km south of GP & out of control. Should people panic? Probably not. Should you be prepared, absolutely. An out of control fire travels on average between 10-20kms per hour. With a kick ass wind it can travel between 50-80 (roughly). While the Wapiti is between the fire & GP....Grovedale, not so much. Personally I would err on the side of caution myself right now. Fox Creek residence were also put on standby last night. I am aware that fires are allowed to burn for the sake of wiping out pinebettles, dead fall etc. such as the Chinjauga fire of the 1950s...I am also very aware of how devastatingly fast a fire wiped out a good percentage of Slave Lake because naysayers said that people needed to be realistic...the fire would never hit the town. So while I pray the out of control fires raging across our beautiful western provinces are brought under control & put out! I also pray that everybody out there is mindful about getting their things in order if they in fact have been put on standby. You never can be too prepared. And for those (especially family) making light of my Motherinlaws situation & feelings about all of this...shame on you..she has lived through many things...wars, fires, floods. Instead of being dickheads you should have been out there helping her gather up whatever she thought needed gathering! So glad I didnt have to ask my kids to help...they just did!
