The first Monday Demonstration in Leipzig took place on September 4, 1989 with about 1,200 peaceful protesters. Within two months, the number of protesters would swell to over 300,000. Now 25 years later we look back and remember the pivotal role these protests played in bringing about the end of the SED regime and securing democracy in East Germany.
