The first Pretty Things album, IMO, gives the early Rolling Stones a run for their money in the snotty art school Brit-R&B stakes. When released on the Fontana label in 1965, it reached #6 in the UK album charts, but my copy is an el cheapo Wing label reissue from a couple of years later (by which time the Things had undergone a heavy turnover of personnel with only Phil May and Dick Taylor remaining from this lineup!) Greater and weirder heights were to follow, but this is a pretty solid beginning!
