The first accumulating snow storm is developing over Southcentral Alaska. In the Anchorage and Matanuska Valley: Early this afternoon, flurries and rain mixed with snow near Palmer-Fishhook Road at the Talkeetna foothills... and in the Portage area south of Anchorage. As temperatures cool this evening, the snow level will drop close to sea level. For those 500 feet or higher, 3 to 6 inches of wet snow is expected. For those below 500 feet, look for minor accumulations of around 1 inch… mainly on the grass, rooftops and cold surfaces by Saturday morning. Travel on roadways may become difficult for a time and visibility could be limited. In the Copper River Basin: About 2.5 of snow fell so far in Glennallen. Expect a storm total of 4 to 8 inches, with the highest amounts North and West of Glennallen. Those planning to travel through mountain passes along the Richardson… Glenn… and Denali highways should plan for snowy conditions through the next several days. If you are planning to head out of doors, expect changing weather conditions that could lead to hypothermia or risk of exposure if not adequately prepared for the elements. Your weekend forecast, radar, weather observations and more are always on weather.gov/Anchorage.
