The first book that I ever read in my entire life was 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins. I actually remember going to the Avon-by-the-Sea Public Library childrens room - in the basement - and picking the book out for myself whilst my dad conferred with the librarian about suitable reading material for a lad of 5 or 6. Why is this trivial incident so deeply burned into my memory? What could it have been, 1958 or 59? Anyway, happy b-day Dr. Seuss!
