The first ever Full Tilt Poker Montreal Festival reached the Main - TopicsExpress

The first ever Full Tilt Poker Montreal Festival reached the Main Event today and the turnout, as expected, did not disappoint. A total of 491 players packed into the impressive Playground Poker Club, meaning the $1 million guarantee has nearly been met halfway with two more starting flights still to come. The powers that be believe that the guarantee will be smashed, maybe even doubled. That’s going to mean a huge first prize for as little as a $1,000 entry fee. Every player is allowed to enter all three starting flights and take their best stack through to Day 2. One player who will probably take the next two days off is the end of day chip leader, Vineet Pahuja. Through today’s 13 levels, he managed to amass a massive 456,500. Pahuja was already in the chip lead before he won a big pot off Team PokerStars Pro David Williams in the last level of the night to stretch clear of the field. Williams called an 80,000 bet on the turn of 5s-4s-2h-Qd before folding to a shove on the Qd river. Full Tilt Poker Professional Gus Hansen was one of the last players to buy in today but that didn’t hamper his progress for a few levels, in fact, it may have helped the poker legend. He shot up to 160,000 in no time but ended the day on 35,400 after a late dip. Around 142 players will return for Day 2 on Monday where they will join the survivors from the other two starting flights. Full Tilt Poker Tour Ambassadors Martins Adeniyna and Andras Nemeth also made it to the end of the day with a 174,600 and 115,700 respectively. Adeniya quickly got his stack over 100,000 and from there it fluctuated as he continuously applied pressure on his opponents. Danielle Moon-Andersen Danielle Moon-Andersen Their teammates: Dermot Blain, Danielle Anderson and Ben Jenkins were not so fortunate. All were out before dinner and all will be trying their luck on Day 1b. They were joined on the rail today by Playground Club members, Antonio Esfandiari, Gavin Smith and Jonathan Roy. Jenkins lasted three hands longer than Anderson and that was crucial in a side-bet the Ambassadors had between them. The first player out has to wear a shirt on Day 1b chosen by the others. It’s safe to say that the shirt will (or should) be embarrassing and adds a little spice to tomorrow. Team PokerStars Pros Victor Ramdin and the aforementioned Williams both played today and made it through with 116,200 and 76,000 respectively. Vanessa Rousso was also in attendance but busted late on despite building a healthy stack early on. Day 1b, as today, will start at 12pm and 13 45-minute levels will be played out again. Many players will be back for another shot, some will be back to try and improve on their Day 1a stack and there will also be a lot of new faces. As ever, the Full Tilt blog team will be on hand to bring you all the major news and talking points the day has to offer. Until then, it’s good night from Montreal.
