The first example of calling on the name of the Lord is found in Genesis 4:26. Nothing is given here to explain how we call on His name; we are merely told that men began to call on Him at this time. Other verses reveal that calling on the name of the Lord is associated with worship and blood sacrifice. Calling on His name is the way that we enter into a covenant relationship as the people of God. In the Old Testament, God’s people called on His name by praising His name, walking with Him, and offering blood sacrifices for atonement and fellowship. Under the New Testament, we call on the name of the Lord by looking to Jesus Christ and His sacrifice as a complete offering for our justification, cleansing, and sanctification. His name is all that we need for salvation. Through His blood and the wearing of His name as identification of a covenant bond, we are forgiven of our sins, are set apart to work in His kingdom, and are reconciled to the Father. We still must walk with the Lord , praise Him, and offer spiritual sacrifices , but we are reconciled and declared to be righteous by the powerful name and atoning blood of the Redeemer. It must be understood that we do not wear His name by merely calling out to Him. That is not what Jesus said. 1 Kings 18:23-24 Psalms 116:1-19, Isaiah 12:1-6 Acts 4:12, Romans 10:9-16 James 2:7, Zechariah 13:9, Colossians 3:15 1 John 2:12, Acts 10:43, Acts 22:16 1 Corinthians 6:11 Acts 9:14, Colossians 3:17, 2 Timothy 2:22
