The first wedding where I presided was at Coolibah Downs for family friend Phil and Nikki. In the quietness of the moment, when they were sharing their first ‘married’ kiss my mobile phone rang. If looks could kill, Nikki got me with one shot. I walked towards my phone, picked it up and answered it. In Nikki’s mind I was now definitely dead meat. Nothing to worry about Nikki, I said, it’s just your father he wanted to be the first to congratulate you both. The videographer never recorded the moment, he was convinced it was fair dinkum. One of the great gotcha’s, a total set up, of myself colluding with Nikki’s parents. After all, Nikki performed at Movie World at the time and she certainly deserved a memorable wedding with a creative and fun twist.
