The floods in Colorado remind me of two wildly different experiences. In the northern Philippines after a day of heavy rain we watched the water pour down the mountain from rice terrace to rice terrace always landing on a solid rock and crystal clear. It was beautiful. In southern China, after a night of rain, a rat climbed up through the sewers and out of the toilet. He looked all wet and soggy with his beady eyes trying to figure out what to do next. Today, the people of Colorado look more like the rat.
