The following is a list of everything there will be to see and do at the Texas State Railroads 16th Annual Salute to the Armed Forces event on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 23, 24 & 25 at the Palestine Depot. The event is from 9am – 5pm each day. The AVTT Traveling Wall – a) 80% the size of the original in Washington, D.C. with all of the names inscribed on it that are on the original. b) Available for viewing 24/7 from Thursday afternoon until take-down begins at 8am on Monday, May 26. c) There will be manned computers to help families look up the location of their loved one’s name on The Wall d) There will be sheets and pencils available for family and friends to do rubbings of their loved ones name on The Wall e) There is no charge to get into the event, nor is there a parking fee. However, people will need money for food and any items they want to buy at the various booths. The Cost of Freedom Tribute – includes in addition to The Wall: a) Vietnam Time Line Panels b) Walk of Heroes Collection c) WWII Tribute Collection d) Korea Tribute Collection e) 9/11 Tribute f) Collection of conflict photos and listing of names of casualties between 1980 – 2000 g) Gold Dog Tag collection for Global War on Terror casualties h) Commander in Chief (Presidents) Panels, Collection of photos of all i) Police and Fire Tribute Panels j) Fort Hood Tribute Panel k) Other informational panels and additional appropriate exhibits of patriotic and military artifacts and memorabilia The Patriot Train: a) Runs at 10am, 1:30p and 3:30pm each day to the Jarvis Wye and back (app. 1 hour) b) The train will be decorated in a patriotic theme and there will be special snacks provided in Lone Star Class c) All current and former military with ID ride for free WWII Exhibits: a) Able Company - A Co, 1st Bn, 502 PIR (Reenacted 1941-1945) b) Camp Lili - a recreation of a communications operating post during WWII with the focus mainly on the Signal Corps and its equipment c) Dog Company - representation of a WWII paratrooper unit showcasing camp life behind the lines and on the front lines d) German Reconnaissance Unit e) 20th Guards – Red Army Soviets f) German Motorcycle Other Exhibits: · Vietnam Veterans of America · Disabled American Veterans · City of Palestine · Women on the Home Front Exhibit · AAA Texas · TSR Ice Cream Station · White Cross Display · Trackless Train (kiddie train ride) · Palestine Regional Medical Center · WWII Military Memorabilia Display · American Red Cross · Delta Company 3-144 Infantry Regiment · Face Painter · Anderson & Cherokee County Veterans Services Officers · Civil War Military Provost Exhibit · Vintage Military Memorabilia Sale · Palestine Fire Department · Texas DPS · 3rd Texas Cavalry · East Texas Acapella Ensemble (performing at 11:30am and 1:45pm on Saturday only) · American Legion Post 152 · Hwy. 84 East Volunteer Fire Department · Booth selling Military and patriotic themed potholders · Korean War Veterans Association · 1st US Volunteer Cavalry (Rough Riders) · East Texas Veterans Alliance · Palestine Police Department · Small and Large Bounce Houses · Bubble Station · Temporary Tattoos · Snow Coney Island (food vendor) · Picnic Area · Event Director’s tent
