The forces of chaos are always at war with the forces of order. The sovereign individual is often tossed about on the tides of this war. The individuals happiness is crushed just as surely by the victory of order as by the victory of chaos. Remember no victory is permanent, and the best we can hope for is to string together as many happy moments of victory for the individual as we can. The slave has surrendered to the forces of order just as surely as the criminal has surrendered to the forces of chaos. The common loser has simply surrendered to the lure of self pity and/or the lure of the pleasures of the flesh, but the sovereign individual stands firm in his ownership of self, both in responsibility and self control, so he moves and lives in the calm at the eye of the storm and savors every happy moment of victory he wins.
