The forecast for this weekends noreaster is becoming very tricky, - TopicsExpress

The forecast for this weekends noreaster is becoming very tricky, especially with the disagreement amongst the models. At the moment the GFS shows the storm staying a bit further out to see brushing us with a rain/snow mix, but nothing significant. The Nam and Euro is where it gets interesting. The Euro brings some warmer air into the upper-levels of the atmosphere. The 850 millibar temperature map below (at 1 pm Saturday) shows a bulge of warmer above-freezing air aloft overspreading our area, which could end up being warmer than the air at the surface. This could result in freezing rain and ice accumulations during the day on Saturday. However, the precipitation will then change to snow late on Saturday with around 5-8 inches of snow accumulation. The Nam shows less freezing rain and more snow affecting the area as temperatures throughout most of the atmosphere will remain below freezing, which can also be seen on the Nam 850 millibar temperature map below (at 1 pm Saturday). Also, like the Euro it shows about 5-8 inches. These forecasts will most certainly change as we get closer to the weekend.
