The founders and staff of DogTrekker want to thank the DogTrekking faithful for participating in our first annual Go California!™ DogTrekker Photo Contest. A whopping 960 photos were submitted, and nearly 20,000 votes for reader favorites were cast. First, the top photo as voted by DogTrekker readers: Maverick at Fort Funston The dog: Maverick The person: Vonny Robertson in San Francisco. Vonny says Maverick is a bulldog that we rescued in March 2013 a couple months after we lost our first bulldog puppy to cancer at only 18 months old. He was 5 months old and already had two homes. We drove from San Francisco to Los Angeles to meet him and it was love at first puppy bite. His favorite activities are chasing rocks along the beach and chewing his skateboard! Next, the DogTrekker Editors’ Choice goes to: Kate, moved by the sea The dog: Kate. The person: Tracie Popma from Sacramento. Tracie says Since moving to Sacramento in 2012, my now 6-year-old Boxer mix, Kate, and I have taken several day trips to Fort Funston in San Francisco. When we arrive, she is off and running, pausing only briefly here and there to inspect something that was washed ashore. While there this past February, I could no longer hear the fervor of Kate’s paws beating the sand, so turned to check on her. Instead of finding her investigating the beach, I turned to see this.
