The four major sculptures (“Courage,” “Sacrifice,” “Loyalty,” and “Vision”) that flank the Chestnut and Pine Street entrances to the Soldiers Memorial Museum, were created by St. Louis native Walker Hancock. The upcoming George Clooney film, The Monuments Men, tells the story of the United States military’s operation to recover lost and stolen art and artifacts at the end of WWII. In The Monuments Men, St. Louis native John Goodman portrays a character partially based on Walker Hancock. In addition to Clooney and Goodman, the movie stars Cate Blanchett, Hugh Bonneville, Matt Damon, Jean Dujardin, and Bill Murray.
