The fridge is one of many household items that has emerged over the last century and become such a social norm that it seems both banal and invisible. Such invisibility hides the fact that cooled and frozen food, usually heavily packaged and processed and without references to seasonality, facilitate an increased disconnect between ourselves and the rest of nature. The refrigerator strengthens the gap between the growing and eating of food by arresting the death and decay of food and allowing us to eat outside of geographical or seasonal food limitations, enabling a disconnect between ourselves and our immediate environment.
