The future of Government Holding Corporation SOLIDIUM has risen - TopicsExpress

The future of Government Holding Corporation SOLIDIUM has risen into the focus of the Finnish political debate. A major bulk of the big Finnish enterprises were originally created as state owned companies. For the purposes of national security, defence or economic and regional develepment. Some of them are still in the hands of the Government by majority ownership. In some companies the Government is a minority owner - still holding a substancial stock of shares. For some years ago most of the Government ownership was grouped into the SOLIDIUM Corporation - while its main task was understood to be guarding the shareholder value of the Government property. The actual economic crises has hit hard many big Finnish companies, not only the private NOKIA but also the Government majority/minority owned companies. One of them - not surprisingly - has been the national air-carrier FINNAIR. The Government will has been intermediated to the companies by the Holding Corporation SOLIDIUM acting management. Even the cabinet member responsible for the Government ownership policies has often been side lined. Now both the present cabinet member responsible for the state owned corporations from the Green Party, Pekka Haavisto, the chairman of the Leftist Ligue Paavo Arhinmäki as well as the Board of the 2nd biggest Government party Socialdemokrats require an overview of the SOLIDIUM practices and structures. Politicians from the senior Government party the Conservatives have loudly opposed these requirements. The Center Party, the smaller one in parliamentary opposition - but leading the opinion polls, tries to fish in the murky waters left by the strife inside the rainbow Government. It deplores the lack of unity inside the Government. But does not clearly tell what is its own position!
