The gallery artist of the week is Erica Rosenfeld! Rosenfeld’s work can be viewed in the gallery! Erica Rosenfeld is a multidisciplinary artist that works within the intersections of art, craft, and design to create mosaics of glass, beads, food, and other found objects. At age five she began stringing beads, discovering the comforting impulse of patterns--tiny, insignificant objects composed into a unified expression. This developed into an act of nostalgia, a ritualistic practice to preserve the memory of her artifacts, some as mundane as candy wrappers. Sometimes the assemblage of materials changes its individual identity, such as in Tapestries, a series where pieces of glass were fused, hot-worked, carved, and sewn into wire mesh and fabric to create a soft, tactile object from its harder elements. Other times it illustrates existing, separate narratives as a communal identity that contextualizes our past, such as in To Remember, a constellation of black and white mug shots, or Queen Bee, a disembodied sequence of old sorority girl portraits. Her jewelry is often a model or a counterpart of her larger scale work. Rosenfeld’s work is available in the gallery! Please contact us for more information.
