The generation before us was in bondage. Their souls were branded and claimed by the logo of their status symbols. They were held tautly at the neck by striving toward an end result surrounded by white picket fencing and secret lovers, too much whiskey and not enough truth. But they still smiled and carried out a half life. Let us forgive the generations gone before us for not telling us the truth. Let us gift them the witness of our brazen self-acceptance. They deserve compassion for their missed opportunities in the earthly delights of unpredictable life and good old dirty humanity. Let us live for the art of human error through redefining success one trip and fall at a time. Let us expose our vulnerable hearts and celebrate the uniqueness of our scars without sweating over what the next person thinks. We must dissolve what it means to be a good American and think about becoming better humans. Only until then, will we change what it means to be alive.
