The goddess Hygeia, daughter of Asklepios, the god of medicine: - TopicsExpress

The goddess Hygeia, daughter of Asklepios, the god of medicine: Hygeia is the Greek goddess of hygiene, but in the traditional meaning of the word. Hygiene was understood as the correct choices you make for your body every day- eating well, moderate exercise, stretching, and emotional wellbeing are all gifts of Hygeia’s wisdom. She holds the keys to prevention of disease and continuance of good health. The patera is the bowl that holds this knowledge in her hands. She is depicted with a snake coiled around her arm that hovers over the bowl as if about to drink. The snake represents humanity. As it is its choice whether or not to drink from the bowl, it is humanity’s choice whether or not to integrate her wisdom into our lives. She is not a vengeful or domineering goddess, she simply offers her gifts and continues to hold humanity in loving arms regardless of their choices.
