The government insists it doesnt need a mass advertising campaign to convince Australians of its budgets merits, despite new polling confirming the fiscal plan is wildly unpopular. Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews says people affected by the budget will be told of changes through the normal channels. But a new poll says seven in 10 voters dont believe the budget spreads the burden of cuts across the population. More importantly, how will the government convince the Senate to pass the budget? Justin Smith with former Howard government minister Peter Reith on whether we are in for a nasty shock if it doesn’t pass.
