The government is trying to take away our sick leave. I think this is absolutely ridiculous. NO ONE should have to choose between healing and getting paid. It is promoting unhealthy workplace to encourage those to work sick. In my detachment there is only 3 officers and myself, If I go to work sick, I may infect one of them...that would mean we would be down to 2 officers AND no clerk, then if I make 2 sick, we are down to one. From another perspective, we do not want our public service workers going to work without them being in top condition and able to focus. We have a very detail orientated job, we need to be with all of our faculties to make fast decisions, follow multiple medias and prioritize in a constant changing environment. We are responsible for entering legal documents, BOLOs, manning radio calls, managing sensitive files, transcribing legal statements, endless court documents, alerts, we provide pertinent information to keep our officers safe and assist them over the radio. We work the counters talking with public and assisting them...which would also mean exposing them to our ailments. now most of these examples are from a perspective of contagions...colds and flus, now think about toothaches, migraines, injuries, arthritis, stomach aches, intestinal issues, etc.... Do you deserve your sick days? did you earn them?......so did we!!! Why should ours be taken away? The government is saying that the public servants are abusing their sick time and taking more sick days than the private sector but they lied about the numbers; they included maternity leave and long term illness numbers in our formula but excluded these from the private sector and we would not be using our sick time for maternity or long term. As PUBLIC Servants, we are here to take care of and protect our communities. We are here doing the job every day for YOU and YOUR family. We need YOUR support in our fight, we need you to speak out to the government and say YES they DESERVE their sick time just as all workers do! We need to move forward in workplace health and safety NOT BACKWARDS. Shame o =n them for even suggesting it let alone stream lining it past the public. It is BULLY tactics and we all need to stand up to bullies! I do not appreciate a bully, the size of the government with its endless resources, using YOUR tax dollars and MY tax dollars to screw over MY family and MY community. A government that gives itself raises, pensions and endless benefits...how dare they take away from everyone else while stuffing their pockets working less hours than any of us. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME ON THEM!
