The grandsons of the Broken Hill hospitals former chief superintendent are in the Silver City to unearth more details about the mans life. Andrew and David Birks describe their grandfather Dr Melville Birks as a pioneer in fighting industrial diseases and making conditions better for miners in the city in the early 20th century. They say theyre keen to find any recollections or memorabilia of their grandfather.
