The great thing about the game of golf is that it can be played by people of any age, race or gender. On the OVGA Tour we have always prided ourselves with this fact. We have always had an open door policy to any player who wants to compete. Weve had players in their 70s playing with players in their teens. Weve had a high school tour and a high schooler on the big tour. Weve had players of many different ethnic backgrounds tee it up with us. And weve always had a strong contingent of female golfers. And while I may not have been chivalrous with making this golfer the fifth inductee of the class instead of the first, I think its safe to say were inducting the First Lady of the OVGA in Jan Meyer. Of the 10 inductees into the Hall of Fame, Meyer has been with the tour the least amount of time. Since joining in 2010, the four-year veteran has already recorded an impressive array of hardware and is clearly established as one of the top players on tour in any flight. For the past 41 weeks of play (an OVGA record), Meyer has ranked #1 on the Tours official World Ranking list. The rankings measure a players play over a two year span and its hard to find a player more dominant than Meyer. Her career however didnt start with dominating performances. In her rookie year, Meyer failed to win an event in her eight starts and finished 42 on the points list. In 2011, Meyer broke through with three wins, including the Tour Championship, to finish 12th on the points list. As you can see in the photo below, Meyer would also take home the Conquest Cup in the Bogey Flight that season as the top golfer in that flight. The next year would be when a star would be born. Riding high from her previous seasons finish, Meyer would win seven times to tie the OVGA record for wins in a season (since broken). Twice she had 3-round winning streaks and would claim her only major to date on May 26, 2012, at the Dayton Open. Meyer would nab the Conquest Cup for a second consecutive year in 2012. She was also chosen to captain the East squad in the annual East-West Cup match that same year and was named OVGA Player of the year, becoming the first woman to accomplish both feats. Meyer would notch wins #11 and #12 in 2013 including the Bridgetown Open after moving up to the Eagle Flight. Career accomplishments: 2010-present 2012 OVGA Player of the Year 2011 Bogey Flight Conquest Cup Champion 2012 Par Flight Conquest Cup Champion Current #1 player on tour (41 consecutive weeks - OVGA record) One major championship (2012 Dayton Open) 5th in career wins (12) First female to win a Conquest Cup, Player of the Year award and captain an East-West Cup team Please welcome Jan Meyer to the OVGA Hall of Fame, Class of 2014!
