The greatest lesssons Ive learned as a scholar didnt come from being in the classroom and teaching people business. It came from running my own business. I learned just how difficult it is for black businesses to get access to capital, including my own. Thankfully, we found a great investor in Africa and a couple of investors in the US who saw our vision. The best part is that we were able to make them both a boatload of money, hire some black people, invest in other black businesses and create educational content and products that have helped to change lives. For those of you whove been a part of this, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Ive learned now, more than ever, that when we all come to the table ready to give and receive, we are better off in the end.
