The holiday season is usually my favorite time of year (except for MM week), however, THIS Christmas season for some reason doesnt feel the same. No big losses in my life, thank goodness, not financially strapped too tight, and no scrooges that I keep company with, yet it just didnt hit me. Besides our awesome Halau holiday party, I bought no gifts for anyone, nor do I feel the need for any material things to be gifted to me. I miss being around my family, but then again, I ALWAYS miss my family (halau included). In feeling this way, I realized that for Christmas I wanted to be around others, not as a social event, but around those who dont have family or a home. I skipped out of an ohana luncheon and a trip home to be with my ohana to do what my naau felt deeply about.....spend some time alone....and then with people that struggle much more than I do. So I am heading to Kakaako to give some meaai, some company, and a lot of aloha to some of those who rarely experience it. In all honesty, I do receive gifts in return. They are lessons of humility, aloha, and the reminder of how grateful I should be to have the life I have. E kala mai e kuu ohana for missing the celebrations, but I think I have realized the true meaning of Christmas....took me long enough! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!
