The holy Crusade lasted over 500 years; with it came bloodshed, - TopicsExpress

The holy Crusade lasted over 500 years; with it came bloodshed, however the trail of blood, once washed away, led to a wave of exploration and discovery. The ultimate goal always was to reclaim the Christian Holy Lands to the Catholic church, however the focus on this goal is somewhat lost as in the process of ‘freeing’ the Christian holy places led the people of Europe to the discovery of the trade goods of the Orient. For years trade was flourishing, and by the 15th century the spice route from Asia to Europe was thriving and excelling. In the mid-1400s, there came a change; Constantinople was a key city in trade, and as the Ottoman Turks came to occupy it, the addition of a new middleman was too much for Europe to find worthwhile. An easier route was sought; thus unintentionally beginning the Age of Exploration, and bringing about the discovery of a new world.
