The hottest day so far of 2014 is wrapping up with some strong storms plowing across northern Minnesota. We topped out at 92 degrees today officially with heat index values in the triple digits very common all across the metro. Storms are moving at 40-55 mph at this hour to the east from central Minnesota toward eastern Minnesota, just north of the metro. Wind gusts have been reported at 45-55 mph. Heavy downpours are also happening along with plenty of dangerous lightning and thunder, a very loud evening in northern and central Minnesota. Storms will push into Western Wisconsin by early in the morning a few could dangle south into the metro, with the majority staying just north of the metro. After a shot of early morning lingering storms then things will start to quiet down with clouds breaking up and winds picking up out of the northwest 10-15 mph by later on Tuesday. The dew points were high today in the mid 70s and that will continue through the midday hours on Wednesday before the dew point starts to drop. We clear out and cool down headed through Wednesday and Thursday before another chance for storms sets up into next weekend.
