The humanitarian crisis at our southern border deserves the attention of lawmakers in Washington, but I am concerned that by simply appropriating additional money, the White House will not address the even larger issue of border security. There are many ideas being circulated by members of both parties that I hope the President will consider along with emergency funds that could address many of the issues we are facing at our southern border. I believe it is imperative that we take this opportunity to address our border security along with the humanitarian crisis and not put off any further this critical component of our national security.
