Shana Gordon Tritsch, mother of the best 11 year old fiddler / electric slide cigar box diddley-bow player currently treading the boards (with the band Marah), gave me the letter W, unless I want X. Well, Im not greedy, so Ill let X=X and take W for my pick. I already posted Robin Williamsons October Song a few days ago, so today I choose Silly Wizard. I guess Im still in a Scots vein. SW counts as W, right? Besides, like Shanas son Gus, Silly Wizards Johnny Cunningham was a prodigy, although he didnt perform with his band until he was 15. Slacker! He was also a rare character, and this track gives some idea of his sense of humor. He lived in Pennsylvania for a time, too, and while I never really knew him we did have a nodding acquaintance for much of the 80s. Sadly, Johnny passed away in 2003 at the criminally young age of 46, of a heart attack. Here he is with the band on their final tour.
