I got Z from Jacquelynne Ocaña...of course, I thought of one of my old time faves, Ziggy Marley, whose new album FLY RASTA marks a return to some of the old reggae vibes reminiscent of Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers. And Ziggy showed California Roots festival this year that he can still bring it live. But No: I thought maybe the other Ziggi, Ziggi Recado, who Ive been enjoying over the past several years too, with tracks like Mary with a slightly rougher and modern reggae than Ziggy M...and his new track too: A No My Fault. Nuff niceness deh pon another ganja anthem. But still NO! My Z share is the band that just played Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and had people talking. With their blend of roots reggae, dub and Ethiopian Jazz, ZVULOON DUB SYSTEM is my Z choice. Love the cross-cultural fusion, back to Rastafaris roots in Africa, a band that is pushing the sound of roots forward, while still keeping things on the level. Roots tip.
